The lovely river Piani, which flows directly into Bangladesh, is formed by the waterfalls in the Meghalayan hills. With the tide, the river transports several stones to Bangladesh. The people gather the stones and use them for a variety of construction purposes. Many photographers are drawn to the area because of how fascinating the entire stone collection process is. The enormous size of the stones draws tourists as well. After being gathered, the stones are taken to the massive crushers, where they are crushed for use in a variety of construction projects.

The Village of Khasia Tribe

The stunning settlement of the Khasia tribe's inhabitants is situated directly across from the waterfall. 

The Khasia people cultivate betel nuts and leaves as their primary source of income. 

The khasia dwellings feature very distinctive architecture. 

During the dry season, you can walk to this settlement; but, during the monsoon, a boat is required. 

The Jaflong bridge is the most robust piece of infrastructure in this remote location. 

The Pinani river as well as the Meghalayan hills are beautifully seen from the bridge.

Best Time to Visit 

The majority of tourists visit Jaflong in the winter because of the simpler access. 

While it is possible to reach the Zero Point in the winter and take in its splendor, the waterfalls are unlikely to be at their full potential due to a lack of rainfall.

The waterfalls become a stunning sight during the monsoon season when the mountains are covered in lush greenery and there are dramatic cascades falling from them. Zero Point, however, submerges owing to flooding during a wet session.

How to Reach?

There are bus and microbus options for traveling the approximately 57 kilometres between Sylhet City and Jaflong. 

One bus option is the "Gate-Lock" service, which travels to Jaflong in about one and a half hours and costs Tk. 110. 

While a regularbus ride costs 70 Taka, it takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete because there are more stops and pickup points along the way. 

Both services leave from Subhanighat in the city; the Gate-Lock departs at 9 am and runs every hour after that. 

The alternate bus service leaves once every ten minutes.
