Ratargul Swamp Forest, Sylhet, Bangladesh

 Overview

In Gowainghat Upazila in Sylhet District, there is a freshwater marshland forest called Ratargul Swamp Forest that is close to the Goain River. 

Most of the year, freshwater surrounds this woodland. 

During the rainy season, this evergreen woodland becomes excessively flooded. 

Here, you may find a variety of regional fish. 

It is the habitat of various animals, including snakes, monkeys, lizards, insects, and birds.

Eagles and vultures may also be seen. 

A boat voyage through some of this forest's tiniest sections wouldbe challenging. 

However, it is one of the few freshwater swamp forests in the world and the sole swampforest in Bangladesh. 

The Department of Forestry, Government of Bangladesh, is in charge of maintaining the forest in its natural state.

How to go

Visitors can get to Ratargul from Sylhet's Ambarkhana point. 

The CNG Auto-rickshaw station is located here. 

About 20 miles separate Ratargul from the Ambarkhana station when traveling on the Airport road. 

Visitors have the option of booking shared transportation or private transportation. 

Each passenger will pay 80 Taka for the shared ride, and 800-1000 Taka for a private return trip. 

Ratargul can also be reached by way of Khadimnagar National Park and Kadim Tea Garden. 

The cost of a CNG auto-rickshaw for a roundtrip will be between 1000 and 1800 taka. 

Fares may be slightly higher on holidays.

Renting a car or microbus from Sylhet to Ratargul costs between 2000 and 3000 taka per day. 

Both Motor Ghat and Chowrangi Ghat provide boat rentals. 

From Motor Ghat, the boat ticket is 1500 taka and 700–800.
